Take a walk at Del Mar Dog Beach - Del Mar

Del Mar Dog Beach

The Dog Beach in Del Mar is one of the best places in San Diego for people and dogs to play together. In this large, open space, dogs are allowed off-leash from dawn until 8am, but after that they should be leashed due to the openness of the area. Some dogs play in the shallow water near a bridge in the area without leashes, but you have to decide what's best for your pet. A great place to visit whether you have a dog or not, this place is home to plenty of sand volleyball games, picnics, and gatherings that dogs are welcome to join.

A hike along Tecolote Canyon Trail on Clairemont Mesa West is another great option.

Tecolote Hiking Trails

Running and walking dogs on leashes are popular here, and it's convenient to nearby neighborhoods, making it a popular spot for locals. In contrast to hitting the beach or a dog park, here is a unique way to get outdoors with your dog. There is no better way to explore the local hiking scene than on a dog-friendly hike! In the nearby Mission Valley, you can find Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar to enjoy some food with your dog.

Perhaps you want to walk the dog before doing an activity they might not be able to participate in. The length is good for getting their energy out and to make you feel comfortable spending a day away from them.

Located at the edge of Balboa Park, Grape Street Dog Park is the largest of Balboa Park's three dog parks, measuring 5 acres. It also has some added amenities like water fountains. Your dog will love spending time in the open fields surrounded by eucalyptus trees. The park is open off-leash Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 9 pm, and on weekends from 9 am to 9 pm. In any other case, your dog will need to be leashed, but the park is open 24 / 7.

Additional water fountains for dogs are available as well as restrooms.
