Garden of the San Diego Botanics

San Diego Botanic Garden
We have an amazing garden scene, outdoor trails, unique plants, and many other outdoor sights in San Diego County. You can find a 37-acre urban oasis in Encinitas, a beachside town in the north of the county.
Since 1970, the San Diego Botanic Garden has changed, restructured, and been owned by new owners. Its original name was Quail Botanical Gardens. As quail no longer live in the gardens, the name has been changed to highlight the plants that are the stars of this Encinitas garden.
Family-friendly spots like this one with rare bamboo groves, succulent gardens, tropical rainforests, herb gardens, desert gardens, and even a large interactive children's garden are a must-see!
SAN DIEGO BOTANIC GARDENS
Over the past five decades, the San Diego Botanic Garden, previously known as Quail Botanical Gardens, has added even more beauty to San Diego's North County.
A total of 29 themed gardens can be found on the property, in addition to 4 miles of hiking trails and North America's largest public bamboo collection.
Onsite, visitors can stroll through many different gardens to experience an extremely diverse, immersive experience.
Gardening in local and native areas
As guests can see exotic, unique, and diverse plants from around the world in the Botanic Garden, it takes on a zoo-like feel.
A hillside Old World Desert Garden, a South Africa Garden, and a Mexican Garden help to provide a glimpse of our neighbors' and other places' rich botanical treasures.
As well as the local and Native gardens, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the Kumeyaay culture and knowledge. Experience ocean views while viewing California native plants, such as coastal sage scrub and maritime chaparral.
Dickinson Family Education Conservatory
Dickinson Family Education Conservatory is 8000 square feet surrounded by geometric glass and unique plant chandeliers that showcase some of the most impressive plants.
Having opened in 2019, this is one of the most important new features in the space, and it is attracting new visitors every day. Whenever you need a space for a wedding or a shower, you can rent out the main hall.
The Hamilton Children's Garden is one of the most popular children's gardens in the country
On the West Coast, the Hamilton Childrens Garden is the largest interactive children's garden geared towards middle schoolers.
Featuring mountain streams, jungle canopy view, and plenty of interactive learning elements, there is plenty to explore. Fans love Tonis Treehouse for its spiraling stairs, rope bridges, and swings that will make parents wish they'd had something like this as a child!
Although Hamilton Children's Garden is devoted to children, it is not the only space here that is designed for them. Children of all ages will enjoy the Seeds of Wonder, a play area for toddlers, and the Junior Quail Trail, with a miniature railroad, log-balancing, and other fun activities.
Demonstration Gardens
As with the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, the San Diego Botanic Garden's demonstration gardens help guests envision a more sustainable, effective combination of plants.
It aims to highlight plants that thrive in low-water areas and can withstand droughts, thus addressing California's ongoing water supply issues.
As well as learning about water-saving systems and water-smart landscaping, you will see plants being grown in herb gardens, subtropical fruit gardens, and Incredible Edibles' Gardens.
Bamboo Garden
Thanks to the San Diego Botanic Gardens Bamboo Garden, Southern California has one of the largest living collections of bamboo in North America.
Experience over 100 different varieties and species of this amazing greenery and feel transported out of southern California in a matter of minutes.
At any of these parts of the Botanic Garden, you could easily spend hours exploring, but watch out for Tuesday closures. In the garden during the winter, the hours are 9 am to 4 pm, with the standard hours being 9 am to 5 pm.
